Administration of Justice

The term administration of justice generally means that a program is offering all of the basic requirements for a career in law enforcement or corrections. If you are looking to become involved in the system of crime and punishment then getting a degree in Administration of Justice is going to be right up your ally. It is important the all levels of the system get proper training so that they can play their part appropriately to keep the system running fairly. No matter what job you would like to get in the justice system you will need to have a degree from a post secondary institution in order to do it most appropriately.

Law Enforcement

There are many individuals that have been dreaming of being a law enforcement officer of one sort or another. In order to be able to work on the front lines of justice a person needs to understand both the system and the objectives of the system in order to do a good job. The job of a police officer is to protect the public and that means the whole public. It doesn’t mean only one small segment of the population. All people need to have their rights protected. The more a person understands the system the more they are going to be able to function in this position.

One of the most valuable things an officer needs to know is about the disbursement of justice, that is that one gets what one deserves. This justice needs to be given in the context of the rules of evidence. There are specific procedures for the collection and cataloging of evidence that need to be followed in order to gain a proper conviction of each person who committed a crime. Even if you know a person is guilty, it is illegal to manufacture evidence or to lie under oath.

Corrections

If you choose to become a corrections officer then the burden is quite a bit different. For example, the verdict about the prisoners is in and you are working in the punishment phase. This phase needs to be administered humanely regardless of your personal opinions about the crime that was committed. Otherwise you are going to be distributing justice based on your own personal opinions which is illegal and unethical. That is why it is vital that intelligent and caring individuals are being employed with a degree in Administration of Justice.

Getting a degree in Administration of Justice is important because the better educated our law enforcement officers and correctional officers are the better the justice system will be operating and the smoother our society is going to run.
